TV Links – American Idol in Chaos

30 Apr

I knew we were in trouble last night from the get go. Ryan said that they had a tight schedule, but what he didn’t say was that Paula was in a different space/time. Where the heck was she when she was commenting on David Cook’s second song when he had only sung one!

But let’s for the moment put aside the horrible direction of the show, and the fact that the judges have become completely redundant and useless. What was really BAD was the singing. Awful, hopeless, forgettable, dull, are just a few of the adjectives that come quickly to my mind. Neil Diamond has an incredibly rich volume of songs that are as memorable as any catalog that I can think of. And what did these singers do to the songs – totally mutilate them. Paula fell asleep and for good reasons. Simon was beside himself – probably because the ratings for American Idol are falling. This show needs some juice, and I think they need new judges to go out and find some really great singers, and not just re-threads of the last six seasons.

Well, enough of my rantings. The good news is that Dancing with the Stars is as fresh as it has always been, and Kristy and Jason are going to the finals, and it should be lots of fun. Shannon and Derek will have to find a bedroom somewhere to complete their own season finale.

Now for the vote. I’ll hold my nose and say that Jason is going home tonight. What do you think?

TV Links – American Idol Redux

24 Apr

Well you can pick my jaw off the floor. Ole Dimple Face Jason Castro and Clean Cut to the Bone (if you believe it) Brooke White, get to have a seat on the Safe Chairs, while Syesha, who blew everyone else away, and Carly, who had the second best performance of the night, have to face the Broadway music. Give me a break! American Idol’s ratings are plummeting because the show has been hijacked by Teenyboppers, who have way too much time, and way too much text messaging skills. This is totally ridiculous.

Now, the show has one of two choices. Either limit the Teenyboppers, let the judges votes count (like Dancing with the Stars), or let the show become more and more irrelevant. I swear, it looks to me like the real singers can’t wait to get off and get their career going, unless they have some fake blond hair that might get them some silly pop idol contract. I’m not sure there is anyone left to listen to, though Syesha is plenty good enough to watch. Maybe she’ll pull off another sultry deal next week?

Bye for now. I got it off my chest.

TV Links – American Idol Does Broadway

23 Apr

Last night was a slam dunk for Syesha Mercado. It may have been the most memorable song for me this season. Personally, I am not a big fan of Broadway songs. But once in a while I hear a truly memorable one, and Syesha really knocked one out of the park last night with her rendition of “One Rock n Roll Too Many

The only other memorable moment was provided by Carly Smithson who sang “Jesus Christ Superstar”. But if Syesha hit a home run, Carla merely hit a single. The rest of the group either struck out or walked to first base. I didn’t remember any of the performances a few minutes after the show ended.

Brooke White decided to finish herself off singing “You Must Love Me”. Well, we shouldn’t and we don’t. She broke the golden rule of American Idol which is don’t sing kiss off songs. She’s gone – lucky for Jason, who still has a strong enough teeny bopper following to keep him on the show for another week.

Syesha saved this TV night for me. American Idol is losing ratings. Last week’s show with Mariah Carey was way down in ratings. As Simon frequently suggests, the show is losing its relevancy.

TV Links Poll – American Idol Down the Stretch – Vote For Your Favorite?

Last night’s American Idol felt like the men were leaving the women in the dust. More and more it seems like a guy is going to win this time around. David Archuleta put in another strong performance, but for me not so memorable. I am not sure whether I am getting use to him or bored with him, but I don’t get any personality from his performances – just a great voice. Jason Castro was kewl and understated. I don’t think I would ever buy an album of his, but he does have a pleasant way about him, and I think he could make an album for his fan base that would do well. For me, the best performance by far last night was David Cook’s. I may develop into a really unique voice. For now, he is just the most consistent and the most unique among this years bunch.

As for the women – well they should begin chanting “wait until next year”. It is getting pretty close to a disaster. The self-crowned winner Carley Smithson is definitely over thinking and trying to manage her way to the finals. She might make it, but for me she is way to robotic and lacking any individual personality. Ditto for the rest of the women, but I really have had more than enough of Kristy Lee Cook, who is still on the show only because of her looks – which are great. Brooke White was a big disappointment. She seems to be getting more and more lost as the season moves on. I think she is becoming a caricature of herself. She has to get out of that and just be herself. As for tonight, too many Cooks spoil the broth so bye, bye Cristy.

I’m betting David Cooke for the win and that Kristy (please oh please oh please) leaves this week. Now its your turn.

Bebo has become a very popular video destination site with some very popular links to popular made for the internet video series such as Sofia’s Diary, KateModern, and The Gap Year. The site is veyr easy to navigate, and has some very high quality web video series that you cannot find anywhere else on the web. While it is still not nearly as popular as YouTube, it is probably one of the best alternatives on the internet at this time.
