Travel Links

SmarterTravel.com

SmarterTravel.com is a site that we just came across. It is not as well known as Expedia but it is loaded with links to great bargains and smart information. You’ll find sections for student travel, frequent travelers, hotel deals, airfare deals, cruise specials, travel advice and special reports. Each of these sections highlights special bargains [...]

Travelzoo.com - Finding the best travel fares and hotel rates

Travelzoo.com adds a little twist to the idea of locating the cheapest fares. Unlike Orbitz.com which searches most of the major airlines (but not all) for the best fares, Travelzoo’s SuperSearch utilizes user ratings to direct you the airline or travel sites that travelers have recommended most.

FlexCar.com and ZipCar.com - Car sharing services

FlexCar.com is a relatively new and alternative approach to car rental. City dwellers or university students, in areas serviced by FlexCar, can join the program and rent cars for as little as $9/hour or $63/day with unlimited miles, full insurance, gas, and roadside assistance. This is extremely competitive with traditional car rental agencies.

Frommers and Fodors - Travel ratings and information

Both Fodors.com and Frommers.com are maintained by well known publishers of travel guide books. Both have excellent information, but, unlike other guidebooks such as LoneyPlanets, these travel sites play it safe. You can get plain vanilla information from them, but you are unlikely to find anything cutting edge or different. They are meant to service [...]

Wunderground.com - Weather Underground

Weather Underground (Wunderground.com)is a good source for quick retrieval of weather information around the globe (provide zip code, city, country, or airport code). Other useful information includes ski reports, marine, and tropical storms/hurricanes. A cool feature called a “trip planner” provides average high/low temperature as well as percent chances of Hot Day, [...]

RealTravel.com

RealTravel.com has a very modern feel. We think that the travel blog feature which is organized by destinations, can be extremely helpful in travel planning. The recommendation feature, that is suppose to help you find a destination to suit your tastes, is simplistic and probably will not add too much to what you already have [...]

Wikitravel.com

Wikitravel.com follows the same format as Wikipedia. The site has an encyclopedia feel to it, so you probably will not get excited about travelling, simply by leafing through the pages. The descriptions are a bit dry, but there is lots of valuable information from the contributors. If you need some basic information about any travel [...]

CruiseCritic.com and CruiseReport.com

Choosing a cruise, particularly for first-timers, is a daunting task. There are so many options, it is difficult to know where to start. We would wholeheartedly recommend CruiseCritics.com. This is an extremely well designed and thought out website that answers all of your cruise selection questions.

The home page features search functions for reviews, cruise ship [...]
